Facebook's Timeline now live

Facebook has finally (they've been talking about this since October) rolled out their new Timeline feature that allows Facebook users to view all of their activity on the social media website since they joined. Users are able to add a much larger main profile image, along with a smaller one that is similar in size to the traditional profile page image. Prepare to see lots of users getting creative with how they use these two pictures together!

The new Facebook Timeline could create quite a stir as it makes user activity and information much easier to access. Users are able to hide information in their timeline, but this may be a very long process depending how long the user has been on Facebook. For example, I joined Facebook in 2006 (14 April to be exact, as shown on my Timeline). That means I have 71 months of Facebook information online. I'm not the type that posts on the site every day, but that's still a massive amount of information. It's helpful having the option to remove content, but it's not likely that I'll be going through my entire Timeline to remove information that I don't want published. There's simply too much there.

Facebook's Timeline will hold huge potential for companies vying for space on a user's Timeline page. Because Timeline displays the most recent activity at the top, Facebook Apps that feature regularly updated content will benefit from this prominent placement. If the app (or the images or videos) contain corporate branding, the potential is massive for companies and organisations seeking to broaden their online presence and brand awareness.
