Ten minutes with Gemma

A warm welcome to our skilled new Project Manager

We’re absolutely delighted this month to welcome Gemma Wallace to Brightec. She’s a Project Manager with a wealth of experience who’ll bring her next-level organisational and people skills to the team.

Brighton beginnings

Gemma was born in Canada and soon afterwards her family moved to Hong Kong. She has Sussex roots, however, having attended a local school and studied at the University of Sussex. She graduated with a degree in Psychology, had a baby in the New Forest (not literally), then dabbled in teaching before returning to  Brighton, where she got her first business break working for a Sussex 3D animation company in its marketing department.

Northern bound

A lover of travel and the great outdoors, Gemma’s adventurous spirit saw her leaving Blighty to spend nearly a decade living and working beside the Canadian Rockies. Initially, she was employed as a technical writer, helping various engineering and tech clients to better communicate their products and services.

From there, Gemma progressed to work in enterprise software sales, and then on to emerging technology in the non-profit education sector. Gemma was responsible for managing big budgets and collaborative IT projects to help save higher education institutions money.

Full circle

Returning to the UK three years ago, Gemma worked as a freelance contractor before landing the Brightec role. Outside of work, Gemma has a passion for photography which she’s also passed on to her son (alongside vast quantities of expensive equipment!). A self-confessed bookworm, Gemma also loves literature and enjoys a spot of creative writing whenever she gets the time.

What app would you build?

Gemma would love to work on a medical app to aid international travellers with life-threatening conditions, so any hospital in the world can have access to translated medical records to speed up treatment. It’s just the sort of app a globetrotter like Gemma would invent.
