10 minutes with Jen

Right place, right Jen

Jen’s Brightec story actually started before she officially joined. Having worked with the team in a previous role, she already knew what to expect – a friendly bunch doing great work. So much so, she admits she was always keeping an eye on LinkedIn to see if the right role came up.

When a Product Manager position opened in 2025, she went for it. A few familiar faces in the interview process later, and she joined the team that October. Safe to say, it was worth the wait.

In her role, Jen sits right in the middle of ideas and execution – helping shape features, map out how things work, and bring products to life. She’s particularly strong on the detail (just take one look at her colour-coordinated bookshelf) and loves seeing something go from an idea to a live feature that people actually use.

She’s also still a little bit in awe of what apps can do. Even with an IT background, there are moments where she looks at something the team’s built and thinks… ‘How on earth has somebody coded that!?’

En pointe… then onto product

Like many of us, Jen’s childhood dream job changed… a lot.

Ballerina came first, followed by forensics, teaching, and even detective work (a theme that still feels quite fitting). In the end, she found her way into a career that plays perfectly to her strengths: problem solving, organisation, and a serious eye for detail.

Outside of work, Jen is what she calls a “micro hobby” collector. Always picking up new interests and seeing where they take her. She loves going to talks on everything from psychology to overthinking, enjoys baking (with award-winning brownies in our Brightec bake-off, no less!), and has built up an impressive collection of scrapbooks filled with memories from trips and days out.

She’s also a proud plant parent to maaaany houseplants, finding genuine joy in spotting a new leaf growing (and rightly so).

Her friends would describe her as organised, reliable, and – in their words – “Northern”. She’s the one planning the trips, organising the group chat, and making sure things actually happen. It’s earned her the nickname “Mother Jen”, which she has, reluctantly at first, now fully embraced.

Spontaneous trips and sunny Saturdays

Despite her love of organisation, Jen also has a spontaneous side. Case in point - booking a trip to Vegas just two weeks before her 30th birthday. Highlights included a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon – slightly terrifying (she’s not great with heights), but 1000% worth it.

Closer to home, she’s just as happy with a simple day out. One of her favourite UK memories is a wholesome trip to Margate, complete with a visit to the crab museum (which, disappointingly, contains no actual crabs).

Her ideal Saturday? Sunshine, friends, a beer garden, and a couple of fun cocktails. No overthinking required.

One final question…

If Jen could build any app, with unlimited time and budget, it would be a random quest generator.

Something for those moments where you want to do something… you just don’t know what. The app would suggest activities – from visiting an art gallery to trying something completely new – with optional little twists to make it more fun (like only photographing yellow things, or turning it into a challenge with friends).

A simple idea, but a great one – and very Jen. Equal parts organised and spontaneous, with a focus on making the most of your time.
