Brightec's Budding STEM Students
Manchester University Game Jam
The first event we were proud to be involved in was the University of Manchester’s Student Game Jam. Organised by the Game Development Society, and our very own Rhys Kentish, this hugely popular event saw teams competing over 12 hours of game-making mayhem.

The event was designed to be extremely inclusive, with competitors not needing previous coding or development experience as long as they could contribute to the overall development process. And the standards were very high, with students creating over a dozen brilliant new games in what proved to be the biggest and best game jam yet.
Race for the Line
Brightec also sponsored the exciting Race for the Line event held at Patcham High School. A national competition designed to fuel an interest in STEM, year seven students were given the opportunity to build and race their very own rocket cars.
Combining skills in science, computer science, design and technology, students designed and built the fastest rocket cars possible. Andy went along to see the final rocketeer races and was hugely impressed with the students’ creativity, problem-solving skills and the speed of the cars they’d produced.
App Challenge
Brightec was also delighted to be on the judging panel for an App Challenge event at Dorothy Stringer School in Brighton. As part of their computing lessons, year Nine students were given the opportunity to let their imaginations run free and come up with ideas for new mobile apps.
A shortlist of the best 10 apps from the whole year group were put forward. And once again, Andy was on hand to offer an industry perspective and help choose the best app on the day. Huge congratulations to all the students involved for their ingenuity and incredible enthusiasm.
