We look back at all of the exciting things 2019 has brought us.
We had a busy year at Brightec, as we look forward to the Christmas break, its good to reflect on all that we’ve achieved.
We started the year looking forward to welcoming Rhys back after his graduation and by the end of the summer, we’d taken on a trio of talent with Jonny, Rob and Elle, joining the team, respectively, as developers and designer.
We have also become home to some new plants. Fortunately, our track record for taking care of our staff is considerably better than that of our plant-keeping.
At Brightec we value the long term relationships with our clients and always seek to do the best job we can for every client whether we’ve known them for two months or two years.
We’ve been thrilled to take on some household name clients this year too - including a national high street retailer as well as multinational financial services company Legal & General.
This year’s other new clients include Natterbox, TrainSplit Web (RailEasy) and Willis Towers Watson TAS.
We’ve continued to help develop our clients’ and new clients’ products by doing more user testing sessions than in previous years. Here’s what some of our clients have said of Brightec this year, both of who we carried out user testing for:
Something we champion at Brightec is the continued growth and evolution of our company - for this, we spend two days a month on Research and Development. This year alone we have spent 1638 hours on R&D! It’s a great opportunity for the whole team to share ideas and collaborate to help Brightec advance. In a similar vein, we are committed to staying on the cutting edge, and lead the way in championing developing technologies such as Kotlin MultiPlatform, as well as using Abstract and Design Git Versioning. We have also created several libraries including KBarcode and XMLCheck. If you have a few minutes, read about our XMLCheck Library.
In July, we embarked on an adventure to Roundstone Farm in Angmering. The mission? Simple. To pick as many fresh vegetables and fruit we could carry in preparation for the main event: The Great Brightec BBQ Off. In teams, we piled the barbecues high with the aim of making as many delicious dishes as possible. Being a Brightec event, this naturally led to an abundance of amazing food which we shared before playing some games together. Later, in November, Andy hosted a fireworks party at his house for us all to come with our families to sit by the fire, roast some marshmallows and chestnuts, and relax...as much as is possible with a herd of small children running around!
Spending time like this together is a great reminder for us all that whilst it’s important to create great work, it’s also vital to work on keeping our working relationships strong and nurturing - a happy team makes for happy clients! This was reflected in Brightec being Highly Commended for the Employer of the Year Award at the Sussex Business Awards at the beginning of December.
As the year comes to an end and Christmas festivities begin, here at Brightec we are excited about what will come in 2020 and how we will develop as a company whilst retaining what we value the most. Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and every good wish for a great New Year!
